Long Scraggy Hosts Increased Number of Guests in 2024
God continues to work out the mission of Long Scraggy Mountain Ranch. The ranch hosted over 50 different groups, resulting in over 2000 individual guests. These groups included church gatherings, kids’ camps, men’s and women’s retreats, family reunions, weddings, homeschool campouts, pastor’s retreats, Cub Scouts, school retreats, and Calvin Camp!
Group leaders consistently report that during their stay, children and adults commit or rededicate their lives to Christ. These transformations are a testament to God’s work at Long Scraggy Ranch.
Reservations for 2025 are already coming in, and it looks to be another busy year at Long Scraggy Ranch! We are grateful to God for bringing His people to stay at His camp!
Long Scraggy Improvements
The Long Scraggy Board and Building and Grounds committee continued to improve Long Scraggy Mountain Ranch in 2024:
Pines Roof: A new roof was installed in May to address leaks that occurred during spring snowmelt and heavy rains.
Water System: Upgrades to the water system were approved by the state in June. The ranch successfully completed required well testing in October. A new water tank and pipes are planned for installation this spring.
Canvas Tents: Two new canvas tents were purchased and installed in June. These tents were taken down in the fall and are being stored during the winter months to increase their lifespan.
Rifle Range: A new fence was installed around the rifle range to enhance guest safety.
Facility Updates: New stairs were installed at the Pines and Ponderosa cabins. New doors were installed at the Juniper cabin and the pool house.
Volunteer Workdays: Volunteers consistently maintain the grounds through raking, mowing, and weed control. Several Ponderosa trees impacted by beetle kill were removed and cut up for firewood.
Pines Cabin Remodel: To enhance guest accommodations, volunteers began remodeling the Pines cabins this winter. Cabins 1 and 2 have been completely gutted. Updates will include electrical rewiring, insulation, updated bathroom fixtures, raised ceilings, new walls, and plank flooring.
Long Scraggy Finances
Long Scraggy continues to operate efficiently, using guest revenue to cover insurance, utilities, and maintenance expenses. Major update projects and improvements are made possible through generous financial gifts, support from churches, and the dedication of countless volunteer hours. This past year saw a record number of volunteers contributing their time and effort to the ranch.
To donate, please visit https://longscraggy.org/give Donations are always appreciated and directly support ranch improvements. We are currently raising funds to replace the pool house roof, improve the Roundhouse kitchen, and update the bathhouse. If you are considering a larger donation, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss our long-term goals, such as building a new all-purpose building with a kitchen. Please contact us at info@longscraggy.org or 303-838-7770 for more information.
If you are interested in volunteering or participating in a workday, please contact us via email. Monthly work days are being planned to prepare the ranch for the summer of 2025. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Eagle Scout Projects
Two Eagle Scout projects were completed this year. One project involved the construction of a new picnic table shelter near the rifle range, providing a convenient space for children to relax while waiting for their turn at various activities. The second project enhanced the pond area with new benches and aspen trees. New benches were also installed throughout the ranch. We are grateful to these young men and their crews for their valuable contributions to the ranch.
Community Impact
Long Scraggy Mountain Ranch is a place where God’s presence is evident. Camp hosts, Jim and Sheri, have had the privilege of hearing numerous stories from groups who have utilized the ranch this past year. These stories range from a young girl committing her life to Jesus to an older man encountering Jesus for the first time. Long Scraggy Mountain Ranch is a special place not only because of its beautiful mountain setting but because of the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. Please continue to pray for the ranch and that God will continue to use it to reach our community for Christ.
